True Meditation | Dr. Renee “The Doctor Of Feng Shui” November 26, 2008

True meditation has no direction, goals, or method. All methods aim at achieving a certain state of mind. All states are limited, impermanent and conditioned. Fascination with states leads only to bondage and dependency. True meditation is abidance as primordial consciousness.True meditation appears in consciousness spontaneously when awareness is not fixated on objects of perception. When you first start to meditate, you notice that awareness is always focused on some object: on thoughts, bodily sensations, emotions, memories, sounds, etc. This is because the mind is conditioned to focus and contract upon objects. Then the mind compulsively interprets what it is aware of (the object) in a mechanical and distorted way. It begins to draw conclusions and make assumptions according to past conditioning.

In true meditation all objects are left to their natural functioning. This means that no effort should be made to manipulate or suppress any object of awareness. In true meditation the emphasis is on being awareness; not on being aware of objects, but on resting as primordial awareness itself. Primordial awareness (consciousness) is the source in which all objects arise and subside.

As you gently relax into awareness, into listening, the mind’s compulsive contraction around objects will fade. Silence of being will come more clearly into consciousness as a welcoming to rest and abide. An attitude of open receptivity, free of any goal or anticipation, will facilitate the presence of silence and stillness to be revealed as your natural condition.

Silence and stillness are not states and therefore cannot be produced or created. Silence is the non-state in which all states arise and subside. Silence, stillness and awareness are not states and can never be perceived in their totality as objects. Silence is itself the eternal witness without form or attributes.

As you rest more profoundly as the witness, all objects take on their natural functionality, and awareness becomes free of the mind’s compulsive contractions and identifications. It returns to its natural non-state of Presence.

The simple yet profound question “Who Am I?” can then reveal one’s self not to be the endless tyranny of the ego-personality, but objectless Freedom of Being — Primordial Consciousness in which all states and all objects come and go as manifestations of the Eternal Unborn Self that YOU ARE.

8 Tips for a Better Life | Dr. Renee, “The Doctor Of Feng Shui” November 25, 2008

Have you ever walked into a house that felt like home or reminisced about the best year of your life, and wondered why everything came together for you? It could be good Feng Shui in your environment.

Feng Shui is all about creating a harmonious environment. Its the ancient Chinese Science and Art of placement, intended to improve our health, harmony, longevity, career and wealth.

Pronounced, ‘Fung Shway’, it was a jealously guarded secret for thousands of years. Now, the benefits of Feng Shui can be enjoyed by anyone. In fact, Feng Shui is a part of everyday life for many Australian businesses, home owners, decorators, and architects.

The key is energy (or Qi, pronounced Chee). Here are ten quick tips that can improve the flow, transformation, and containment of Qi in your life:

1) Remove shoes before entering a home. (Don’t take your problems in with you.)

2) Cook at least one meal a day and eat at the table as a family.  (Raises the energy in your home)

3) Never have knives on show even in a block. (Puts you and your guests on the defense)

4) Always sit or stand facing the door (or its reflection). (Puts you in the command position)

5) Keep the toilet lid down and bathroom and laundry doors closed. (Keep valuable Chi from going down the drain)

6) Don’t sleep with your feet facing the bedroom door. (This is the morgue position)

7) Don’t sleep next to the wall that has the meter box on it. (Too much energy for a peaceful nights rest)

8) Do not live in a home with a tree or the door of the house opposite. (represents blocked opportunities)

Home Office Feng Shui | Dr. Renee “The Doctor Of Feng Shui” November 25, 2008

Whether you believe in the powers of feng shui or not, there are an increasingly large number of people who do. Either way, it’s fun to examine different ideas, so let’s take a look at your home office from the feng shui point of view.

Business people in Asia have considered work place feng shui to be a crucial contributor to personal and business success for centuries. Anything that has lasted for centuries is worth a closer look to see if any part of the concept will work for you. In this article we will ignore corporate business office feng shui, and focus on home office adaptations.

Have a separate outside entrance to your office if possible. If you can not, then choose a room that is near the front or back door of the house or apartment. Separate your home office from the rest of the living area in order to keep your business and personal lives separate. If your home office is part of a larger room, then partition it off with bookcases, screens, or large plants.

Never have your back to the window. Having your back to a door symbolically leaves you open to attack. If you directly face a door you may be overpowered by the incoming Chi. The best position is with your back to a wall.  The next best position is angled away from a doorway.

Flat ceilings are best for promoting the flow of Chi. If you have a sloped ceiling, cathedral ceiling, or exposed beams then you can bamboo flutes to offset the negative effects.

If you have views of harmful elements from your window, you can negate them by the strategic placement of wind chimes or plants. Bamboo plants symbolize good fortune and are ideal for placement in the home office. Cactus or any sharp leaved plants are good feng shui in this area as they are believed to deter harmful influences.

Consider taking a short walk before entering your office to work each day and another one at the end of your working day as another measure of separating your business life from your personal life.  To allow energy to flow through the room, leave at least 7-9 inches of space between each piece of office furniture..

Keep your workspace clean and clutter-free in order to allow a free flow of feng shui energy throughout the room. There is a difference between clutter and stored items. Stored items should, however, be filed away or stored neatly in a cabinet or closet to allow the flow of feng shui energy.

Fend Shui Benefits

Feng shui is said to make you more aware of how your environment affects your state of mind. Even if you don’t subscribe to the ancient Oriental ways, you have to admit that an uncluttered office, with room to move around, and pleasant decorations is much better than a cluttered dungeon that’s stuffed to the ceiling with piles of paper.

Also, feng shui helps you to stay focused by forcing you to store incomplete and future projects in a storage area so you won’t be distracted by worrying over them every day. Feng shui experts claim that you will receive these additional benefits as well:

* Increase your prosperity & abundance.

* Boost your health.

* Reduce insomnia & stress.

* Enhance your personal power.

* Easing of family conflicts.

* Increase your concentration

* Enhance financial security.

* Attract new customers to your business.

* Upgrade your life in many other ways

Visualization Therapy: Seeing Your Dreams Come To Life September 15, 2008

Visualization therapy mainly involves focusing your mind on what you like to happen and believing that these images are real to your body.

Visualization therapy is very precise and detailed. You can imagine how something smells, feels, sounds and tastes.

Your imagination need to appear so genuine that it can keep your mind into the thoughts that it is a truth. Most of the clinics in US use this therapy to help you to control the pain associated with any ailments or diseases.

When compared to adults, children can easily learn visualization. It is supposed that this is because children have not crossed into the black and white absolutes of adults.

Numerous cases were proved that visualization therapy helped people to fight against various illnesses and to lead normal lives. Most of the complementary health care centers use traditional therapy along with visualization to help you to lessen the activity and reduce further spread of a seizure.

Benefits of visualization therapy:

  • This therapy greatly helps in coping with various activities that you have become very much addictive. It completely changes the way that you think. You will no longer observe yourself in terms of drink or drug use.
  • The therapy helps to alter the mental picture of yourself and in doing so it changes your reality. This is a method of getting and altering the underlying pictures.
  • This therapy is a form of meditation [meditation technique] or self-hypnosis that you can utilize to help with mental, physical and emotional health by visualizing positive and desired outcomes to precise situations.
  • This therapy helps to desensitize the triggers for cravings and help to endure cravings.
  • Visualization greatly helps in personal growth, constructs your clean self and manages the underlying emotional distress, depression and trauma.
  • Visualization therapy promotes activity in the correct side of your brain, which is then linked to emotions and creativity.
  • Gradually, visualization changes your brain wave patterns, increases the flow of low frequency, calms the alpha brain waves and encourages the production of neurochemicals like dopamine that are depleted with the use of cocaine, thus making you feel good.
  • The therapy is commonly used by sports people to create ultimate performance.
  • Visualization can also be used along with the conventional medicines while treating the cancer and also it helps in strengthening your immune system.
  • Visualization therapy acts as an effective tool in stress management.

Visualization is mainly intended to use the right creativity side to help in restoring the balance. The correct part of your brain completely allows what you like to achieve without giving belief and works upon it without judgment.

If you want to use visualization therapy on your own, then you can use intention. Remember that your intention should be specific, perfect and attainable and most of you need to trust and think that it is being accomplished.

Feng Shui Elements – Supporting Harmony In Your Home September 15, 2008

Every object or element present in the space has its own specific energy that it spreads out to everyone and everything else in its proximity.

One of the easy ways to find your life leading with the help of feng shui is to get the power of particular feng shui colors to attain the preferred results. Color is the most powerful, as it is light.

The fundamental belief of feng shui is the principle of five elements.

The five feng shui elements include: wood, earth, fire, water and metal.

These five feng shui elements relate with each other in certain means, usually described as the productive and destructive cycles.

Each one of the feng shui elements is defined with a precise color and the color is the simplest method to utilize the five feng shui elements in order to get more harmony into your space.

Color association of all of the five feng shui elements:

  • Wood: Brown, green
  • Earth: Light brown, light yellow
  • Fire: Purple, orange, red and strong yellow
  • Water: Blue and black
  • Metal: Gray and white

It is very hard to know the usage of color in order to support and balance your environment with the help of compound feng shui objects.

But don’t worry about it, there are always basics defined to it. You will come to know everything with the help of feng shui energy map and clear about the right placement of the feng shui colors.

For instance, the energy related to south feng shui region is associated with your recognition and fame. For this, the better transformation is the fire or light within.

This is linked to the representation that your plan to other people, your individuality in others’ eyes and also how strong or good you are at distributing and sustaining your own identity, values or light.

For south region, the feng shui element is fire and the colors corresponding to it include: orange, red, purple and yellow. Don’t consider black or blue colors for south feng shui region.

  • Green color is an excellent or a healing choice to improve your overall health and balances your family life when it is used in the east feng shui region.
  • Blue color is a good choice for north feng shui region. This color supports and helps you in your career plans. For east region, it provides health and family wellbeing and for southeast, it provides abundance and prosperity.
  • Yellow color in the south region gives good times and happy gatherings.
  • Pure white color in the west region supports you in your imaginative endeavors.

So, when you plan to bring the colors to your environment as feng shui therapy, make sure that you study the light patterns throughout the day in your space and also observe how the color works with other people in your family. Also, the color should match with your decor objects, furniture pieces, arts, etc.

Creating A Feng Shui “Notebook” September 12, 2008

Bagua

Bagua

Most Feng Shui books and classes tell you to start your own Feng Shui notebook, but they never explain exactly how to go about it. Finally, I can lay out a good start for you here.

My recommendation is to get a smaller-sized loose-leaf notebook (also called small format). The one I use is about 9″ x 8″ (or European size 23 cm x 21 cm). I use several different colors of paper.

Start by adding a title to your first page, Intentions for This Year. Next, divide the page into the nine Bagua squares. Add a label at the top of each square, indicating the name of that square–for example, Heath and Well-Being, or Career. Spend a few minutes jotting down any goals for the year that you may have, as they fit into bagua squares. It’s OK if you don’t have goals in every square.

If you are unfamiliar with where to place the bagua squares, here is a guide (and don’t worry now about colors or elements):

Here are some personal examples. In my Love and Relationships square, my goals for this year are spending more time, and more fun time with my daughter, and finding the time to play long-distance chess with my brother who lives in another country. The goals I wrote in my Wealth and Prosperity corner include doing a better job of living within my means, and to get my financial papers in order. So take the time to enter some goals for yourself.

Next, make one page in your notebook for each room of your home. Don’t forget to make a page for the hallway, the garage, and each bathroom; as well as the utility room, if you have one. If you have already made your house plan, you can mark on the top of each page which bagua square(s) the room fits into. (If you haven’t yet made a house plan, then you can skip this step for now.) The reason for making a page for each room is that now you will have a place to start recording any changes you make.

We made some changes yesterday. An electrician came and installed a light in the downstairs bath, so I duly marked that on my Downstairs Bath page, along with the date it was done. He repaired some lights in various bedrooms, and I made notations on the appropriate Master Bedroom and Daughter’s Bedroom pages, along with the dates.

Having a notebook with recorded goals and changes will allow you to go back later to see if those changes were effective. If they are effective at moving you toward your goals you should notice a change within three to six weeks.

Victoria Beckham Swears By Feng Shui | Dr. Renee “The Doctor Of Feng Shui” September 11, 2008

Football ace David Beckham and his wife Victoria have reported embraced Buddhism.

Sources have revealed that the couple, who live in Los Angeles with their three sons, can be seen chanting every morning to help themselves deal with their hectic lifestyles, reports www.chinaview.cn.

“David and Victoria have gone completely Californian! David has begun wearing health, prosperity and performance beads around his wrist. He has started yoga and stretching classes after a knee injury, and then a teammate suggested Buddhist chanting to soothe his mind,” a source told Britain”s Look magazine.

“Now he and Victoria do a short five-minute chant when they wake up to start the day off on the right foot, repeating, “Homage to the blessed one, the worthy one, the rightly self-awakened one,” the source added.
Posh, 34, is said to have incorporated holistic eating into her diet plan.

“David and Victoria are really getting into the whole holistic, healthy vibe too. Victoria often picks up a soya latte at an organic cafe called Urth Caffe, which is next to The Bodhi Tree bookstore, where she bought hundreds of dollars’ worth of self-help books,” the source said.

The couple are even said to have employed a feng shui expert for the proper arrangement of their mansion.

“They have had Chinese Feng Shui experts come in to rearrange their home, hope it will improve David’s luck on the soccer pitch and their chances of conceiving. They have turned into the ultimate hippy power couple!” the source said.

Michelle Obama’s Fashion Feng Shui August 26, 2008

Tangerine; doing the twist in a 60s throwback!

Tangerine; doing the twist in a 60s throwback!

Could your fashion taste increase your chances of political success? in Michelle Obama’s case, it would certainly be nice. Wife of presumptive Democratic presidential nominee Barack Obama, Michelle Obama is making a reputation for herself as an all-American fashionista. Despite her reluctance to take center stage during her husband’s presidential campaign, Obama’s sense of taste in clothing has become undeniable to the stylish American ’shoperazzi’. “Height, brilliance, and class are the essence of Michelle Obama” remarked Baltimore area Feng Shui Consultant, Dr. Renee Parks who’s gone great lengths to analyze the color palette and Feng Shui of Michelle Obama’s campaign appearance wardrobe.

“The energy of our clothing (chi) greatly affects our thoughts and feelings. It also guides our interactions with other people. It is believed that your chi is partly determined by the clothes that you wear, particularly the material, color and pattern. What is believed to be good material consists of cotton, silk, linen, wool and leather. It is important that wool and leather not be restrictive to the body” says Parks.

The wife of presumptive Republican presidential nominee John McCain, Cindy McCain tends to flash a cadre of top-shelf digs, however fashion pundits have unfavorably documented McCain’s attempts to make her 71 year old husband appear younger by donning florescent red patent leather jackets, and hot-pink blouses on the campaign trail. Michelle Obama’s retro-Americana meets ’ 1983 Dynasty’ style is conversely grabbing the attention of everyone with eyes and a bug for fashion. The new ‘Michelle Obama Mania’ in terms of fashion is reminiscent of another young first lady, Jacqueline Kennedy, donning her classic ‘pillbox’ and long clutches of pearls, while being widely emulated by American women.

Recently Obama donned a black and white summer dress from White House/Black Market on a daytime broadcast of ‘The View’. Subsequently being dubbed the “Michelle Obama Dress” during the show, the dress has gone 6 months back-ordered. The $148 off-the-rack creation from designer Donna Ricco has become an overnight sensation, and has brought quite a stir within the realm of political punditry and blogotry.”Balance is the essence of Obama fashion, in Feng Shui white is represents Yang - poise and confidence, while black – Yin, is indicative of success, power, stability and protection” notes Parks.

During the nomination rally for Obama’s vice presidential nominee, Joe Biden, Michelle sported an echo of 1955’s ‘Grease’ during a rally in Springfield Illinois. A feminine ‘Picasso-like” floral with swaths of grape, wintergreen and lavendar splashed onto a 1-piece girlish knee-length dress with a slimming bodice and popped ‘Rizzo’ collar. As her outfit screamed for a trendy spiked heel, Obama has avoided them during events, presumably due to her impressive height (5′11), and the possibility of overshadowing her husband’s visual sense of authority. “In this dress, she is embracing more of an mental healing and calming of the mind. Mind you, this is after the great controversy surrounding a statement of hers. That shade of lavendar  is also indicative of a peaceful environment, in terms of Feng Shui meaning.” she says. ” She seems at ease, and less uptight than I’ve seen her recently.”

As the keynote speaker for the first day of the Democratic National Convention in Denver, Obama sported a feminine form fitting teal, one-pieced cardigan number, which tapered just above the knee. An open-toed baby doll heel gave her a slight arch, softened her stride and accentuated her height onstage. As her speech was perceived to be speaking directly to working class white voters, her clothing accentuated an innate sense of cool – and less a sense of red carpet (which is almost impossible for this Diva to contain!). It was so cool, that many women expressed their desire to find out more about her dress afterward on MSNBC. “Now this dress is completely about being reborn. Teal is a wood element color with a unique combination of adventure, exploration and rebirth. This may be a magnificent complement for the Obamas, whether they realize it or not” notes Parks.

As for future Michelle Obama fashion, Parks has a few suggestions. “Michelle probably has her choice of any fashion designer at this time, but I would love to see her wearing warmer hues during her appearances. Yellow, essentially represents warmth and motion, while gold lends itself to a sense of spiritual connection. Orange is the color of purpose and strong communication with the fellow man. These are the dynamics that the Obamas are seeking to culture and manifest in their campaign. I would suggest these shades on a generic level, but I would also love to see her wardrobe developed on a holistic level by her stylists.” notes Parks. “Instead of a la’carte random designs, Michelle should a develop a cohesive collection that embodies and supports her spirit, and the spirit of the American woman.” she says.

Handling Summertime Stress, Tips For Career Women August 19, 2008

Handling Summertime Stress,
Tips For Career Women

Summer is usually a time of relaxation for children and families, but for many career women, a vacation is a luxury that is simply not affordable or possible. Between managing high-level positions and attempting to solidify the family unit, many women grapple with unique and stressful summers.

“Every woman must be certain to maintain her health and wellness, even though we are ‘expected’ to rise to every occasion, and often without help” says Doctor Renee Parks, a Feng Shui and Holistic Health Practitioner in Baltimore.”I am very conscious of my mental, physical and spiritual wellbeing during this time of year - because women can be prone to exhaustion. The days may be longer, but we must realize that our mission is not to wear ourselves thin – but to rejuvenate and pamper ourselves whenever we can. We must also support a culture of simplicity within our homes and ourselves, this is what I assist my clients in accomplishing” she says.

BEING THE SUPERMOM
Just because the summertime allows the children a vacation from school, many women are still bound to the “pick-up”, “drop-off”, activities and childcare routines that are the necessary evils of ’mom-hood’. Doctor Renee suggests that working moms seek neighborhood carpools and more localized and inexpensive group activities for children. “I know moms who drive 50 miles roundtrip to take their children to dance class. How does your pocketbook respond? How does the strain from burnout and exhaustion reflect in the interactions with your children?.”

Align with 2-3 moms in the area that you know personally or by referral from a good friend, and work with them in order to create weekly group outings for your children to cultural arts events in the area!. Find out if a group “childcare carpool” can be arranged if your children are very small. Research a list of state points of interest while you are at work, and free cultural centers that children would enjoy. These could be more fun for the kids than the regular ‘pizza and a Redbox DVD’ routine. You will not only save time, energy, and money, but you will enrich and expand the minds of your children for years to come.

DEALING WITH THE HEATWAVE
Heat and humidity are what summer is all about. However, these two things are something that pre or post menopausal career women cannot stand for very long. Doctor Renee suggests that clothing, diet and alternative uses in cosmetics may alleviate your body’s response to heat and humidity. “Firstly, the skin must be as clear as possible, unless you are attending or hosting an elegant function, where makeup may be needed. Your understanding of the foods you eat also will correspond to the way that your body will feel and respond in heat, and all the running all around. I tend to lean to a lighter palette of neutral colors that are not absorbent.”

Lip gloss and possibly a bit of waterproof mascara are what Diva Renee suggests for daytime, so that women will have the opportunity (and pleasure) to splash the face with fresh water several times during the day. This will also support clean and healthy skin – beautiful for any season. Hair that is pinned back from the face will make you feel cooler, and accentuate the grace of your neck and shoulders. Less hairspray, but more natural and light oils may also be beneficial in terms of hair. Choose a cute, sophisticated, or vintage set of hair pins to aide in the creation of a new ”updo” for summer.

In terms of clothing, go for lighter and more neutral colors, with delicate fabrics that do not absorb moisture too visibly. Avoid.silk, silk-blends, iridescents, or heavy fabrics. “If you choose a gypsy skirt, be certain to match it with a more form-fitting top, to give the body shape. Don’t go for ‘baggy’ all over, this is not good Feng Shui, nor acceptable in terms of fashion.”

Food is a ‘hot topic’ in terms of staying cool, because the body uses different amounts of energy to digest each type. “The proverbial light lunch can be satisfying, with a good balance. Stay away from carbs and starches, unless you want to be sleepy by 3pm. Vending machines offer poor choices – they are mostly incredibly salty or incredibly full of carbs.”, Doctor Renee advises. ”Spicy foods (with cayenne) are only good for morning, but in the afternoon you risk ‘heatflashes’, and at night you risk acid reflux. Cayenne also causes the body to produce heat internally. I would caution a career woman in selecting these for her ‘at work’ meal.”

ON THE HOMEFRONT
Central air conditioning may cool the home, but clutter and disorder will certainly bring your blood-pressure to a boiling point! Many career women are overwhelmed, and lose sight of the conditions of their homes during the summer. While this is happening, usually the home is full of ‘little people’ who are full of energy. If you have youths or teenagers home alone during the summer, you certainly have help – but you must learn to negotiate and set guidelines for their ’coveted assistance’ in getting your home back!

“Call a family emergency meeting where you lay out the plan,” says Doctor Renee. “Each day, there should be one to three chores or goals for each child to accomplish. The ”chore / goal list” should also be detailed and recorded each day by the child on a checklist in the kitchen or family area. Its amazing how we are held so accountable on our jobs, but we do not hold our children accountable for the conditions of our homes, especially when they are the ones who live there for free.” she says.

Dishes, garbage, laundry, folding, pets, and the cleaning of their rooms and common spaces are all things that children can complete easily in about one hour a day. When arriving home, call the children together so that you may inspect each area and praise them for their good work. One way to admonish ‘the rebel’ of the family would be to REMOVE priviledges or activities for them until their chores are completed for 3 days straight. The ”chore / goal list” will help you to remember what was completed on a certain day. It will also prevent the “favoritism” claim that many children use when it comes to their soft-hearted parents.
